Hello, and welcome the the course Country Studies of America!
This course is taught in Semester 2 of Year 1, for students major in Asia-Pacific Studies, specializing in American Studies. 

This course aims to equip students with:

  • New knowledge and approaches when entering a specific American studies program including background in the natural conditions, society, political system, economy and culture of the United States

  • Practical research skills through collecting, organizing, and interpreting information on complex U.S. issues, then apply those skills in teamwork, presentations, and written assignments that link American Studies with International Relations.

  • Independent learning as students learn to evaluate different scholarly perspectives, reflect on how domestic and international factors interact in U.S. policy, and cultivate the motivation to pursue deeper study in American Studies beyond the classroom.

After finishing this course, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental concepts, economic and political characteristics, and historical context of the United States

  2. Apply analytical techniques of social science principles to demonstrate the causal relationship between the natural/social conditions of the United States and the development of its political institutions, cultural characteristics, and economy.

  3. Demonstrate proficiency in executing the required steps for researching, synthesizing, and processing information concerning complex U.S. research issues.

  4. Demonstrate proficiency in executing clear presentations and employing logical argumentation when discussing interdisciplinary issues between American Studies and International Relations/Diplomacy.

  5. Justify the necessity of considering and evaluating diverse academic perspectives on core issues in U.S. history, culture, economics, and politics.

  6. Initiate continuous self-study on the U.S., while developing civic awareness, community responsibility, and ethical judgment in academic and professional work.
